چکیده

Among the enzymes studied glucose-6phosphate dehydrogenase seemed the most sensitive enzyme; 57 % and 78 % inhibition at zero (due to the binding of primaquine to NADP binding site) and 30 minutes of incubation (due to the reactive oxygen species), respectively. Catalase, superoxide dismutase, and glutathione-S-transferase were less sensitive to primaquine-derived reactive oxygen species: 33, 11, and 0 % inhibition at the time zero and 39, 27, and 4 %, at the end of 30 minutes of incubation. Glutathione reductase and glutathione peroxidase were resistant to primaquinederived reactive oxygen species.

Studies of Methemoglobin Concentrations of Three Human Erythrocyte Genotypes (Hb AA, Hb AS, and Hb SS) in the Presence of Five Antimalarial Drugs

Background: Malaria remains the world’s most devastating human parasitic infection. Our goal was to assess the capacity of increasing concentrations of five antimalarial drugs (FansidarTM, HalfanTM, Quinine, CoartemTM and Chloroquine phosphate) to elicit the generation of methemoglobin in three human erythrocyte genotypes (Hb AA, Hb AS and Hb SS). Materials and Methods: Spectrophotometric metho...

Studies of Human HbAA Erythrocyte Osmotic Fragility Index of Non-Malarious Blood in the Presence of Five Anti-malarial Drugs

Background: The capacity of human HbAA erythrocytes of non-malarious blood to withstand osmotic stress in the presence of five antimalarial drugs, Chloroquine phosphate, Quinine, FansidarTM, CoartemTM and HalfanTM was studied in vitro. Materials and Methods: Aqueous solutions of four increasing concentrations of the drugs used in this investigation were in the order: 0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6% and 0.8% (...

Terpenoid Compounds and Anti- Hemozoin and Anti- Ciliates Protozians Effects of Artemisia annua L. and Chenopodium botrys L.

Background: β-Hematin (Hemozoin) was synthised inside human erythrocyte by malaria parasite. The parasite avoids the toxic effects by polymerizing heme molecules into insoluble crystalline β-Hematin. C. botrys and A. annua used for the treatment of diseases like malaria, hepatitis, cancers, and inflammations. Objective: Determine of antimalarial and anti-protozoa effects of A. anuuae and C. bo...

Screening of Different Extracts from Artemisia Species for Their Potential Antimalarial Activity

The formation of hemozoin (malaria pigment) has been proposed as an ideal drug target for antimalarial screening programs. In this study, we used an improved, cost-effective and high-throughput spectrophotometric assay to screen plant extracts for finding novel antimalarial plant sources. Fifteen extracts with different polarity from three Iranian Artemisia species, A. ciniformis, A. biennis an...

Phytochemical Analysis and In-Vitro Bioactivity of Scrophularia Umbrosa Rhizome (Scrophulariaceae)

Scrophularia umbrosa is a medicinal plant used as a traditional herb. This study was designed to investigate the phytochemical analysis of methanol (MeOH), DCM, and n-Hexane extracts of rhizome as well as total phenol and total flavonoid contents (TPC and TFC). In-vitro β-hematin formation assay and DPPH method were applied for analyzing antimalarial and free-radical scavenging activities of th...
